Traditionally famed for its islands and historic cities, Greece is being rediscovered as a year-round destination
Santorini may allure millions of tourists during summer months, but Greece is more than blue sea and crimson sunsets. Year-round destinations that feature fall colors and winter vistas are also popular tourism sites, important ingredients in a plan to boost tourism dollars year-round.
Tourism accounts for 20% of the Greece economy, was a strong economic pillar even throughout the recession years, and German visitors are vital contributors to the industry. “Most of our tourism is from Europe, and within that, mostly from Germany,” says Haris Theoharis, Minister of Tourism. “German tourists stay longer than many other visitors,” he adds.
